Women’s Health Organizations – Why Is It Important To Me

Retained menses ain’t a typical phenomenon.

BiNWIAR was set up being that there is a need for all of us in the Arab region to join forces and address problems related to women and their health.

And so it’s important as these problems affect the life of women all over and we can make a difference.

The actual question is. Why is it important to me?

In line with the World Health Organization, the practice is internationally recognized as a violation of human rights and has no health benefits. Now look, the procedure have enough chances to cause severe pain, fever, infections and even death in problems related to women and health. Eventually, that lack of awareness and advocacy against female genital mutilation is amongst the problems that Thalia Arawi, a bioethicist at the American University in Beirut, is hoping to work on in her new role as chair of the Bioethics Network on Women’s Issues in the Arab region.

Network was established two years ago by UNESCO’s Cairo branch to further the discussion of women’s health and welfare in the Arab region.

All countries in the Arab region are involved and affected.

Being elected first chair is indeed a vote of confidence and a honor that certainly humbles me. Normally, most importantly, That’s a fact, it’s a responsibility that I will have to live up to. Known Surely it’s also important to note that the work of BiNWIAR is a collective effort. With all that said… Our emphasis is on health. All Arab countries have women as well as men leaders who have joined BiNWIAR. A well-known fact that is. With that said, this means targeting women and young girls as well as men and young boys in awareness campaigns that are very much needed. Now please pay attention. Surely it’s by joining forces that we can make a difference. Female genital mutilation procedures that intentionally alter or injure the female genital organs without medical cause remains stubbornly widespread in parts of the Arab world. Djibouti follows with 93 percent, Egypt with 91 percent, Sudan with 88 percent, Yemen with 23 percent and Iraq with 8 percent. In Somalia, let’s say, only a third of 15 to 49 year old females think the practice should stop. Despite its prevalence, awareness of the big problem remains low. Just 28 Egyptian percent males of really similar age agree, in Egypt this figure rises slightly to 38 percent among women and girls. Actually the network does not focus on one issue only, as so it’s a longterm project with longterm effects.

Woman’s dignity is ultimately about human dignity, just after all.

We operate from the premise that women already have rights simply by virtue of being human, and so it’s a de facto claim to begin with.

To ensure success, work will have to be done gradually and in a culturally appropriate manner. Essentially, it’s vital to make it clear that this movement isn’t a feminist movement fighting for the rights of women. Consequently, the body and health of a woman are essential sides of her dignity and humanity. We certainly hope to achieve a lot, with the type of needs assessment to see what the priorities are in the region, the focus shall not only be what I personally need to focus on.
